National Lok Adalat is to be held on 14 December in the country to settle cases ranging from traffic challans to cases where a decision can be made through mutual consent. It is not that National Lok Adalat is held in one place. Rather, it is held in every district court of the country and now its preparations have been completed.

From Siwan in Bihar to Sirsa in Haryana, courts in almost every district of the country have constituted a bench of judges for the National Lok Adalat. Lok Adalat works according to the provisions of the Legal Services Authorities Act 1987. For this, a National Legal Services Authority has been formed at the national level and a State Legal Services Authority has been formed in every state at the state level.

180 benches made in Delhi

If we talk about the bench of judges formed for Lok Adalat according to districts, then 6 judicial benches have been formed in Sirsa. The number of judicial benches formed in Siwan is 13, while 52 benches have been formed for Lok Adalat in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. Similarly, many judicial benches have been formed in every district by the district-level legal service authorities. Each bench has been given the responsibility of hearing different types of cases.

In the country's capital Delhi, a total of 180 judicial benches have been formed in 7 district courts to settle lakhs of cases like traffic challans, consumer forums, and debt recovery. In Lok Adalats, claims related to the recovery of outstanding bills and motor accident insurance are also settled. Last year, 1.80 crore cases were settled through Lok Adalats. Only 4 National Lok Adalats are held in a year.

These cases are heard

Every such case is heard in Lok Adalat, in which a decision can be taken by mutual consent. Lok Adalat does not settle any such civil or criminal cases, in which any kind of compromise is legally prohibited. Here such cases are also heard, which have not yet reached the court or are in the pre-litigation process. Such cases are settled in Lok Adalat without filing a case.

Here your case is decided without paying the lawyer's fee. If any of your old cases are decided, then your court fee is also refunded. The decision made here cannot be challenged in any court of the country. This is the last Lok Adalat of 2024. There are only 4 National Lok Adalats in the country in a year. The next Lok Adalat will be held in March 2025.
