The country's largest automaker Maruti Suzuki has been preparing the new generation model of its popular hatchback Celerio in India for a long time. Recently, the confirmation about its launch date has come to the fore.

The new generation Maruti Suzuki Celerio has been in the making for a long time, but it looks like it will take some time for the hatchback to go on sale in India. The Indian carmaker had plans to launch the Celerio earlier this year, but the second wave of COVID-19 put its launch on hold. After that, there were reports that the hatchback would be available for sale after its launch this month. But now its launch has been postponed till after October. But if media reports are to be believed, the 2021 Celerio price in India will be announced on November 10, 2021.

The delay in launch has been due to the global chip shortage, which is now a pity for most carmakers. The launch of the upcoming hatchback next month will not help Maruti Suzuki to take advantage of better buying during the festive season. However, by launching it around Diwali 2021, the company can get more benefits.

The second-generation Maruti Suzuki Celerio will be based on the company's Heartect platform on which other cars like Ignis, Swift, and Baleno are currently based. It is also expected that the new Celerio will be bigger than the old model that was launched in 2014 and also received a midlife refresh a few years back. It will also come with a new design language. Based on some spy shots and leaked images that have surfaced on the interwebs, the new Celerio will get triangle headlamps, a sleek chrome grille, redesigned taillights, a new boot lid, and more.

Of course, the new Celerio will be more feature-rich than the current model. It will come with a new interior layout and will feature a touchscreen infotainment system, steering-mounted controls, a new instrument cluster, dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, reverse parking camera, and more.

Maruti Suzuki is, for the time being, silent about the powertrain of the new Celerio, but we believe that the hatchback will continue to use the existing 1.0-liter petrol engine that is capable of producing 67bhp and 90Nm of peak torque. It is believed that the carmaker may also offer a 1.2-liter petrol engine option with the hatchback, although its chances are quite slim. The new-gen Celerio will come with a choice between a five-speed manual gearbox and an AMT.
