Kawasaki Ninja 400 Discontinued: Kawasaki has discontinued its sports bike Ninja 400 in the Indian market. The company recently launched the all-new Ninja 500 in the country, just a few months after which the company discontinued the Ninja 400. The new Ninja 500 is largely based on the Ninja 400. It was brought only to replace the Ninja 400.

The Ninja 400 was first launched in India in 2018 as a fully imported (CBU) model for Rs 4.69 lakh (ex-showroom). But, due to the implementation of BS6 emission standards, its sale was temporarily stopped in April 2020. This entry-level sports bike was re-launched in 2022 but has recently been removed from Kawasaki's India website.

Kawasaki launched the Ninja 500 in February this year, and both bikes were being sold together until the stock of the Ninja 400 ran out. In the last few months, the Ninja 400 was being sold with a discount of Rs 40,000, bringing its price down to Rs 4,84,000 (ex-showroom).

The Ninja 400 bridged the gap between the Ninja 300 and Ninja 650 in Kawasaki's sports bike range. The Ninja 400 was powered by a 399cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled DOHC 8-valve engine, which generated 44.8 bhp at 10,000 rpm and 37 Nm at 8000 rpm. This unit was mated to a 6-speed transmission with a slipper clutch.

Whereas, Ninja 500 has a 451cc liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine. It gives 45bhp and 42.6Nm peak torque at 9,000rpm. Like the Ninja 400, the Ninja 500 competes in the market with the likes of the KTM RC 390, Aprilia RS 457, and the Yamaha R3.
