Hyundai Ioniq 5 Spotted: South Korean automaker Hyundai sells its only electric SUV Kona in the Indian market. At the same time, a video of the all-electric Hyundai Ioniq 5 is in discussion on the internet these days. Ioniq 5 has been seen on the streets of Chennai. Interestingly, the all-electric Ioniq 5 was also showcased during the opening ceremony of Hyundai's new headquarters in Gurugram. However, Hyundai is yet to make any official announcement about launching the Ioniq 5 in India.
Gives excellent range in a single charge
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 made its global debut in February 2021 as the first EV to be produced under Hyundai's EV subdivision Ioniq. This electric is built on a made-for-EV platform called Global Modular Architecture (e-GMP). The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is powered by two battery packs of 58kWh and 72.6kWh. The carmaker offers a rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive setup with both batteries. Its larger battery pack offers a WLTP range of up to 481km, while the other battery pack offers a range of up to 385km.
When will it be launched in India?
Like the Porsche Taycan, the Ioniq 5 also uses 800-volt super-fast charging technology. According to WLTP, it can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 18 minutes with the fastest supported charger. Apart from this, it can be used up to a range of 100 km on five minutes of charging. If media reports are to be believed, Hyundai may be planning to launch the Ioniq 5 in India in 2022 or 2023.
What's special about the design and the cabin
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a futuristic electric crossover SUV. It sports a neat design with straight-sided elements on the body. Hyundai says the exterior design of the Ioniq 5 is inspired by the Pony (the carmaker's first mass-market car). High LED headlights and quad DRLs have been given in its front. Similarly, the rear gets a square-shaped LED rear light and an integrated spoiler. Coming to the cabin, there are two large 12.25-inch displays with an instrument cluster and an infotainment touchscreen. Apart from this, Hyundai gets Bose sound system, dual-zone climate control, hands-free tailgate, 360-degree camera, seven airbags, and Level 2 autonomous facility.
