These are the rules for a PUC certificate
According to the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), you will have to provide a valid PUC certificate while renewing your vehicle insurance. Based on a Supreme Court judgment, IRDAI has issued an order that no insurance company can insure a vehicle unless it has a valid PUC certificate on the date of policy renewal.

What are the rules for making an insurance claim?
According to the Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989, the Supreme Court has declared PUC as a mandatory certification in a ruling. At the same time, IRDAI has ordered insurance companies not to insure those vehicles which do not have PUC certificates. However, the obligation of this certificate has not been kept for claiming insurance. Last year, a new KYC rule has been introduced to settle insurance claims easily.
