43 lakh cars sold in the country, city or village… who won?
The Indian passenger vehicle market has recorded a sale of 43 lakh units in the year 2024. The past year proved to be beneficial for top brand companies like Maruti Suzuki India, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, Tata Motors, Hyundai, and Kia. These companies have recorded the highest sales ever. Due to the increasing demand for vehicles not only in cities but also in villages, the sale of vehicles has been excellent there too.
There is a steady growth in the sale of SUVs. The rural market has played a big role in increasing car sales. At the same time, in the year 2023, this figure was around 41.1 lakhs. In comparison, the year 2024 has seen a growth of about 4.5 to 4.7 percent in terms of car sales.
Maruti's name resounds in the village.
Maruti Suzuki has achieved its highest-ever wholesale and retail sales. The company broke its own six-year record with sales of 17,90,977 units. Only 17,51,919 units were sold in the year 2018. Retail sales reached a new peak of 17,88,405 units, which is more than the 17,26,661 units sold in 2023.
The company's vehicles have also sold well in the villages. A growth of 16 percent has been registered in December 2024. Maruti Suzuki's sales in December 2024 were 1,30,117 units, which is 24.18 percent more than last year. In the month of December, rural sales registered a growth of 16 percent.
How will the year 2024 be for Hyundai?
Hyundai Motor India sold 6,05,433 units in the year 2024. The SUV segment accounted for 67.6 percent of this. However, its sales in December 2024 saw a marginal decline of 1.3 percent compared to last year.
Tata Motors
Tata Motors registered a growth of 1 percent by selling 44,289 units in December 2024. The company recorded record annual sales of 5.65 lakh units for the fourth consecutive year.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor
This year was very good for Toyota Kirloskar Motor. The company registered sales of 3,26,329 units in the year 2024. This is 40 percent more than last year. The SUV and MPV segments have contributed the most to this growth.
