The number of active connections of telecom industry increased by 2.5 million in October: report


The number of active subscribers of the telecom services industry increased by about 2.5 million to 96.1 million in October 2020. The latest report released by ICICI Securities on Friday said the impact of SIM integration is decreasing due to the increase in charges, which has led to an increase in the number of active connections.

Based on the data of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in the report, it said that in October, the number of active subscribers of Bharti Airtel increased by about 3 million to 32 million. Bharti Airtel added the highest number of customers in Maharashtra (seven lakh) and Gujarat (five lakh) circles, traditionally considered weak.

Active subscribers are calculated based on the visitor location register (VLR). According to the report, in October, the number of active customers increased by about 25 lakh to 96.1 million. According to TRAI figures, the total number of Airtel subscribers increased by 36 lakh to 33.03 crores in October. Reliance Jio saw an increase of 22.2 lakh subscribers to 40.63 crores.

According to the ICICI Securities report, in October, the number of active subscribers of Jio increased by 11 lakh to 319 million. Vodafone Idea Ltd. (VIL) continues to decline inactive subscribers. In October, VIL's active subscribers declined by nearly 27 lakh to 26 crores.
