Ban on snack video app too soon, preparations for ongoing action

The Indian government has banned more than 200 Chinese apps this year, including popular apps such as TicketLock, PubG, and UC Browser. After the ban, some light versions of Chinese apps are operating in India. Apart from this, there are many apps that have been renamed and launched in India and it is a matter of note that such apps are becoming quite viral.

One name in these apps is Snack Video, which is being considered as the new avatar of the banned Kwai app. Snack Video is appearing in the top trending on Google Play-Store and it is used by more than 100 million people in India. The popularity of the Snack Video app can be gauged from the fact that videos of Snack Video will be seen in the WhatsApp status of many people in your contact. Snack Video is also a short video app with many features such as editing, lip-syncing and special effects.

At the same time, preparations are on to ban the Snack Video app as well. C-DEP President Jayjit Bhattacharya said in a statement that this app poses the same risk as restricted applications and is currently a new name or form of a restricted app. As such, it is a violation of the orders of the Government of India.

The Center of Digital Economy Policy Research (C-DEP) has also written a letter in this regard to Home Minister Amit Shah and Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and IT, Rajendra Kumar. The letter states that even with the snack video app, there is the same threat of security and privacy as with the banned app. In such a situation, the snack video app can also be banned at any time.

You will be surprised to know that Snack Video is a Chinese app launched by Kuaishou Technology earlier this year. The Kwai app was operated by the same company. Let us know that Kuaishou is a big Chinese company with many apps in many countries of the world. Tencent also has money in it.
