Vandana Kataria's family lives in Roshanabad, Haridwar. After retiring from Haridwar BHEL, Vandana's father started a milk business in Roshanabad. Under his patronage, Vandana Kataria started her hockey journey from Roshanabad. At that time, the local people made fun of her along with the family for this step of Vandana in the village. Father Nahar Singh and mother Soran Devi, regardless of this, helped Vandana at every step to make her dream come true.


Vandana could not reach even for the last glimpse of her father

Professionally, his hockey started from Meerut. After this, she reached Lucknow Sports Hostel. Due to the poor financial condition of the house, he used to find it difficult to buy good kits and hockey sticks. There were many occasions when fellow players used to go home during hostel holidays, but due to lack of money, she could not go home. In such a situation, he got a lot of help from coaches Poonam Lata Raj and Vishnuprakash Sharma.
