Tokyo. The Indian men's hockey team has made it to the quarter-finals of the Tokyo Olympics. The team defeated the 2016 Rio Olympic gold medalist Argentina team 3-1 in their fourth match. This is the team's third win in four matches. The team has won against New Zealand, Spain, and Argentina. India only got defeated by Australia. The team will take on hosts Japan on July 30 in their final Group A match.

Both India and Argentina made a good start in the match. No goals were scored in the first quarter. Both teams could not score in the second quarter. The score was tied at 0-0 till half time. Both the teams did not score a single penalty corner in the first 30 minutes. Varun Kumar scored a penalty corner in the 43rd minute to give India a 1-0 lead.

India scored two goals in the fourth quarter

Argentina made a comeback in the fourth quarter. In the 48th minute, Mako Schooth scored from a penalty corner to level the score at 1-1. After this both, teams showed an aggressive game. In the 58th minute, Vivek Sagar scored a field goal for India to give the team a 2-1 lead. Then in the 59th minute, Harmanpreet Singh scored a goal on Conner to give the team an unassailable 3-1 lead. India got a total of 8 corners and India scored in two.

With the third win, the Indian hockey team is at number two in Group A with 9 points. Australia has won all 4 matches and with 12 points the team is on top. Spain, New Zealand, and Argentina have 4-4 points after 4-4 matches. But on the basis of goal average, Spain is third, New Zealand fourth and Argentina's team is in fifth place. Host Japan has 1 point in 4 matches. The team has not won any match so far.
