Indian men's hockey team started with a win in Tokyo Olympics. In their very first match, India defeated New Zealand 3-2 in a clash. Harmanpreet was the hero of the match by scoring two goals for India.
Both the teams were tied 1-1 till the first quarter of the match. Harmanpreet then scored in the penalty corner to give India the lead. Later, Harmanpreet scored once again on a penalty corner to put India 3-1 ahead. New Zealand later scored a goal.
Thus the Indian team managed to win the first match of the Olympics 3-2.
In archery for India, the pair of Deepika-Praveen managed to reach the quarter-finals. In the women's 10m air rifle, Yang Qian of China won the gold. Switzerland's Nina Kristen managed to win a bronze medal in the 10m air rifle. India's Apurvi Chandela crashed out before the medal round.
