Muralitharan holds the world record for taking 800 wickets in Test cricket. He made this record in the match against India itself. Muralitharan holds 18 world records in cricket. His major records include most wickets in Tests (800) and ODIs (534), most wickets in Tests and ODIs combined with 1334 wickets, most wickets in Test cricket with five or more wickets in an innings of 67 times.

He also holds the record of taking ten or more wickets in Test cricket 22 times. Sri Lankan legendary spin bowler Muttiah Muralitharan has taken 800 wickets in 133 Test matches. He has taken 534 wickets in 350 ODIs and 13 wickets in 12 T20 matches.
