The names of golfer Rashid Khan, Aditi Ashok, and Deeksha Dagar have been recommended by the National Federation for the Arjuna Award this year. Rashid is the best-ranked Indian golfer in the world rankings, while Aditi, who competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics, is the only golfer in the country currently playing in the Ladies PGA Tour in the US, winning three in the Ladies European Tour.
Deeksha had won the women's South African Open title and the golfer, who won a silver medal at the 2017 Deaflympics, was sure to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics but was postponed. The Indian Golf Association (IGU) recommended his name. Professional institutions - The Indian Professional Golf Tour (PGTI) and the Women's Golf Association of India (WGAI) often send their recommended names to IGU. All of them were expected to make it to the Tokyo Olympic team if the Kovid-19 epidemic had not happened.
Rashid missed the individual bronze medal by one shot at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou but helped the Indian team to a silver medal. He is the best ranked Indian golfer from the 10th position in Asia and he is also the top Indian from the 185th position in the world rankings.
