President Ram Nath Kovind Wednesday inaugurated the newly built Motera Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad and renamed it 'Narendra Modi Stadium. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Jai Shah, along with Home Minister Amit Shah and Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju were also present at the event.
Home Minister Amit Shah said, "Together with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave and Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, a sports complex will also be built-in Naranpura. All three will be equipped to host any international sports event."
"Olympic games can also be held here," Amit Shah said of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave.
Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju earlier said, "It is a proud moment not only for cricket but also for India. Apart from being the largest cricket stadium, it is one of the most modern stadiums in the world."
He said "As children, we used to dream about the world's largest stadium in India. And now as Sports Minister, my happiness is no limit that it has finally happened."
The Narendra Modi Stadium will host the third and fourth Tests between India and England and will also conclude the five-match T20 series between the two sides.
