Rajasthan Royals team director Kumar Sangakkara said that if his team wants to make a comeback in the Indian Premier League (IPL), then one of the top four players will have to score big. Rajasthan has so far managed to register only one win in four matches. He suffered a crushing defeat by 10 wickets at the hands of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Thursday night. Rajasthan Royals had a target of 178 runs in front of Bangalore. RCB's team achieved the target in 16.3 overs from innings of Devdutt Padikkal (101 not out) and Virat Kohli (72 not out).
Sangakkara said in the press conference after the match that we need big partnerships. One of the top batsmen will have to play a big inning. The Royals have big hitters like Jose Butler, captain Sanju Samson, and David Miller in the top order. However, the team again struggled in the powerplay and their score was 32 for three in the first six overs. The innings of Shivam Dubey (46) and Rahul Tewatia (40) helped the Royals reach a respectable score.
Sangakkara said, "We need to bat well in the powerplay." We have to play partnerships and one or two big innings. The middle order and lower middle order made a really good comeback which was nice to see. Shivam Dubey batted well and showed more awareness than in the first three matches ". The former Sri Lankan captain praised Padikkal who scored his maiden century. Sangakkara said it was an unbeaten innings. He hit a few good balls.
