IPL 2020: 'The time has come to remove Virat Kohli from the captaincy of RCB'

Fans of Royal Challengers Bangalore were once again disappointed. Their wait, which has been going on continuously for 13 years, increased. Captain Kohli's dream of lifting the gleaming IPL trophy for his team was shattered again. RCB has become the 'Chokers' of IPL. Captain Kohli has started to be questioned once he is out of the tournament after losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday night in the Eliminator.

Gautam Gambhir, a former Indian cricket team opener who made KKR a two-time IPL champion under his captaincy, feels that Virat Kohli should now be removed from the captaincy of RCB as it is also a question of accountability. Gambhir, who is known to put his point in the line, said that Kohli should not be named as captain along with the legendary Dhoni and Rohit Sharma.

When asked if RCB should relieve Kohli from the responsibility of captaincy, according to ESPNCricinfo, he said, "Eight years (without title) in the tournament, eight years is a long time." You tell me about another captain, skip the captain, tell me about another player who, despite being with a team for eight years, did not win the title and still remains with the team.

Gambhir has been a critic of Kohli's IPL leadership over the years but insisted that there was nothing personal about it. Gambhir, who made KKR champions in 2012 and 2014, said in the 'Time Out' program, "There must be some accountability." There has to be a line somewhere, he has to say responsibly that 'Yes I am responsible, I am accountable'. Look at Ashwin what happened to him. He remained captain for two years but was removed if the team did not perform.

Gambhir said, 'Dhoni has won three titles, Rohit has won four titles. He has given results so he is the captain for so long. I am sure if Rohit Sharma too had failed for eight years, he would have been removed as well. There should not be different scales for different people. RCB has become a team that revolves around only two players Kohli and AB de Villiers. In this year also, only de Villiers could perform match-winning performance. Think, what would happen to RCB if this season was not good for de Villiers.
