If the Delhi Capitals, who are at the top of the table, are to retain their number one position in the Indian Premier League, their batsmen will have to do well in the match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Abu Dhabi on Saturday. Shikhar Dhawan is in excellent form for Delhi and has scored a century in both the previous matches, but due to the failure of the rest of the batsmen, the team suffered a defeat against Kings XI Punjab.
The young Prithvi Shaw will have to show more responsibility in the top order. Shaw could not open the account in two of the last four innings. Captain Shreyas Iyer is not able to do the way he was batting before he got hamstring. Rishabh Pant, who returned after recovering from injury, was also seen struggling at the crease in the last match. Apart from Iyer and Pant, Marcus Stoinis is the backbone of Delhi's middle order. Fast bowler Enrich Nortje, along with compatriot South African Kagiso Rabada, played a key role in Delhi's victory.
Nortje, however, did not play in the previous match due to injury. If he returns, his bowling will become sharp again. In such a situation, Australian fast bowler Daniel Symes will have to leave a place for him. KKR's team will enter the match after an embarrassing performance against Royal Challengers Bangalore. In this match, KKR's team was able to score 84 runs. This would have negatively affected the morale of the team.
KKR currently has 10 points and is in fourth place, but the Eoin Morgan-led team will be desperate to increase their points to stay in the playoffs. Fast bowler Lockie Ferguson's good performance has been positive for the team. Andre Russell is in poor form causing the team a loss. He did not play in the last match due to injury. It will be interesting to see if the team management shows confidence in him if he is fit. KKR also needs useful contributions from Morgan, Dinesh Karthik, Shubman Gill, and Nitish Rana in batting.
Both teams are
