Olympic qualifying India Open Badminton Tournament postponed due to the COVID-19 epidemic will now be held here from December 8 to 13. The World Badminton Federation (BWF) has announced a revised calendar to protect the pandemic affected session.
The BWF said in a statement that the World Tour Super 500 tournament was earlier scheduled to be held in Delhi from March 24 to 29, but will now be held on December 8 to 13. Prior to this competition, Hyderabad Open will be played from 11 to 16 August and Syed Modi International tournament from 17 to 22 November.
Eight tournaments will be dropped from their previous schedule to the new dates which include New Zealand Open Super-300, Indonesia Open Super-1000, Malaysia Open Super-750, Thailand Open Super-500, and World Tour Finals in China.
BWF Secretary General Thomas Lund said, "It has been a very difficult task to plan for the restoration of badminton. A lot of tournaments are being organized in a short span of time but we are confident that this will provide us with the framework to resume safe play. '
He said, "At this time it is difficult to predict when players will start moving internationally and when entry-related restrictions will be removed, but we will not resume the tournament until it is completely safe to do so."
