England beat Sri Lanka in the first Test!


England defeated hosts Sri Lanka by seven wickets in the first Test played at the Galle International Cricket Ground. With this, England took a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series. England got a target of 74 runs to win the first Test match, which they achieved by losing three wickets.

In England's second innings, Johnny Bairstow scored 35 and Daniel Lawrence scored 21 runs to win. Captain Joe Root, who scored a double century in the first innings, was given the title of man of the match. Sri Lanka had scored 135 runs in the first innings. In response, England had scored 421 runs. After this Sri Lanka scored 359 runs in their second innings.

A superb 101-run partnership for the first wicket between Kusal Perera and Thirimane gave Sri Lanka a good start in the second innings. Perera contributed 62 runs and Thirimaney contributed 111 runs. Former captain Angelo Mathews scored 71 and Dickwela scored 29 runs.
