The prize money of IPL started in 2008 has increased manifold during the last 13 years. In the first season of the IPL, the winner was given an amount of 4.8 crores. These amounts were the same from 2008–2012.



After this, in 2013, for the first time in the sixth season of the Indian Premier League, Mumbai Indians won the IPL title. In the final match, Mumbai had defeated Chennai by 23 runs. This season the winning team got 12.5 crores and the runner-up got 7.5 crores.


In 2014, due to the Lok Sabha elections in India, 20 of the 60 matches of the seventh season of IPL were held in the UAE. The title of this series was won by Kolkata Knight Riders. It was given an amount of 15 crores as a reward. Runners-up team Kings XI Punjab received a winning amount of Rs 10 crore.

Mumbai Indians, the winner of the 8th season of the Indian Premier League, received prize money of Rs 15 crore, while the runners-up Chennai received Rs 10 crore.

In IPL 2016, Sunrisers Hyderabad won the trophy of the season by defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore. Winner SRH received Rs 15 crore, while runner-up RCB was awarded prize money of Rs 10 crore.

In the finals of the tenth season of the IPL, Mumbai Indians won the title by defeating Rising Pune Supergiant. By winning this match, the Mumbai team created history by winning the IPL title for the third time. The team of Mumbai Indians, who won the IPL 2017 title, got prize money of Rs 15 crore, and the team of runner-up Pune was given prize money of Rs 10 crore.

Chennai Super Kings came back low in IPL 2018 after facing two years of suspension and won the IPL Championship for the third time by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets. During this time Chennai Superkings received prize money of Rs 20 crore, while the runner-up Sunrisers Hyderabad received an amount of Rs 12 crore 50 lakh.

The final of IPL 2019 was played between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, with Mumbai Indians winning. The IPL 2019 winning team Mumbai Indians was given an amount of 20 crores, while the runners-up Chennai Super Kings got an amount of 12.50 crores.

In the match played between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals in Dubai due to Corona, Mumbai broke all records and won for the 5th time but gave Rs 10 crore to the winning team last year, while the Delhi team got Rs 6.25 crore.

This year, the 14th season of the IPL is also being done between the Corona era, so this time also the IPL 2021 amount will be 10 crores for the winners, the runners-up will get Rs 6.25 crores and the two other teams who will make it to the playoffs will get Rs 4.375 crores.
