The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the players' auction date to be held before the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League's much-awaited T20 tournament. The mini-auction of the Indian Premier League is likely to be held in Chennai on 18 or 19 February before the 2021 edition of the league. Talking to PTI, a BCCI official said the mini-auction will take place on either of the two dates before the 14th edition and a final decision will be taken soon. "The second Test match ends in Chennai on February 17. So, we will go on 18 or 19 and the venue is Chennai," the source said.
All eight franchise teams participating in the tournament were asked by BCCI to release the list of players to be retained and released by 20 January. A total of 57 players were released by all the teams while the rest decided to keep the key players with the team.
The 2020 edition was held at the UAE in September – November due to the COVID-19 epidemic. Nothing has been said by the board so far regarding the tournament to be held this year. But this time IPL is likely to be in India.
Earlier BCCI had plans to field 10 teams this season, but at present it has postponed its plan till 2022. That is, like this time, only 8 teams will participate in this season.
