Kalpa gained prominence after the visit of the British Governor-General Lord Dalhousie in the 19th century. The local Narayan-Nagani temple here is a perfect example of craftsmanship.


Kalpa has a Buddhist monastery which includes Hu-Bu-Ian-Kar Gompa, which was founded by Reinhansang-PO (950–1055 A.D.). Kalpa is situated near the 6050-meter high Kinnar Kailash. It is the legendary winter home of Shiva. When the sun falls on the layers of snow, the view here is very beautiful. There is a viewpoint upstream from the Chowk of Kalpa village in Himachal, from where one can get a wonderful view of the entire village.
