Corona has troubled people a lot. Even after being free from infection, the patients are not recovering completely. They are facing different kinds of problems. Till a few days ago, cases of black fungus were being seen more in patients who were cured of corona and now a new threat is looming on such people, whose name is avascular necrosis. It is also known as 'Death of Bone'. Three cases have been reported in Mumbai. Experts say that this could be the next debilitating condition in patients recovering from corona after the outbreak of mucormycosis. Doctors fear that more cases of avascular necrosis may come to the fore in the next few months. Let us know in detail what is this new problem and what are its symptoms?
The study related to this disease has recently been published in the medical journal 'BMJ Case Studies'. Dr. Sanjay Aggarwal, Medical Director, Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai, has described avascular necrosis as a part of the 'Long Covid' and said that there will be an increase in the cases of Kovid-19 due to the 'large-scale use of life-saving corticosteroids'.
What is this disease?
Avascular necrosis is a serious bone problem in which bone tissue begins to die. That is the meaning of saying this is that in this disease the bones start melting. This is because the blood flow is obstructed and not enough blood reaches the tissues. In such a situation, there is a lack of nutrition and bone tissue starts dying.
People of this age are most affected
Experts say that the problem of avascular necrosis most commonly occurs in the hip bone, due to which the round part of the femur, which forms the hip joint, begins to melt. Although this problem can happen to anyone at any age, usually people in the age group of 30 to 60 years are more affected and suffer from it.
What are the symptoms of avascular necrosis?
severe pain in the thigh and hip bones
laxity in walking
persistent pain while sleeping
Pain in shoulders, knees, arms, and legs
Contact a doctor immediately if symptoms appear or if you have persistent joint pain
