Surgeons led by a doctor of Indian origin in the US underwent a lung transplant caused by Kovid-19. Earlier, the same team had done a lung transplant in a woman. She has considered the first such surgery in the US since the coronavirus epidemic began.
A 60-year-old Kovid-19 patient from Illinois was placed on extrasporial membrane oxidation (ECMO) for 100 days. It is a life support machine that works in the heart and lungs. The hospital said in a statement that they received it for a transplant last week at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
Dr. Ankit Bharat, Thoracic (Thoracic) Surgery Head and Surgical Director of the Northwestern Medicine Lung Transplant Program, said that non-Kovid patients were transplanted before the new lung transplant was done for the Kovid patient. Dr. Ankit Bharat has done seven lung transplants in seven days.
