A few weeks back in India, pictures of an electric vehicle based on the Wagon-R were doing the rounds on the internet. After which now once again this electric hatchback has been seen during testing. We told you earlier that the WagonR hatch has been seen with Toyota badging, while this time the electric WagonR has been seen with the Maruti Suzuki logo.

The surprising thing here is that Maruti is not yet ready to add an EV to its lineup. Instead of EVs, Indian carmaker Maruti is currently focusing on CNG and hybrid powertrains. This information was given by MSIL in a media interaction. So finally the WagonR EV has been seen on testing. What is the story behind that?

Electric WagonR for export or the Indian market: In fact, Maruti is testing 50 WagonR electric cars in the country since 2018. Which can be prepared in India and exported to the foreign market. At the same time, there is very little chance that this EV will be included in Suzuki's portfolio in some international markets. This electric car based on Maruti Suzuki WagonR can be included in Toyota's portfolio and maybe named Toyota Hyryder.

Toyota and Maruti may have a third product: At present, there is no clear information about this product. Currently, two models Glanza and Urban Cruiser are sold in India in collaboration with Maruti and Toyota. Which is the rebadged version of the Maruti models Baleno and Vitara Brezza respectively. There are reports that the Japanese company Toyota will also launch a rebadged Maruti Ciaz under its brand name Belta. Maruti Suzuki has been considering bringing an electric vehicle to India for a long time, and the WagonR is an entry-level hatch. Which is most expected to come in an electric avatar. However, since the reports on the car's production started, there has been no concrete evidence of the final launch.
