Scientists identify two antibodies that neutralize coronavirus from lamas


The corona epidemic continues to wreak havoc all over the world. Scientists from all over the world are looking for a vaccine to eliminate it. Meanwhile, scientists have claimed to identify two such antibodies from the South American mammal lamas, which can eradicate the effects of the coronavirus.

Scientists have claimed that the coronavirus can be neutralized in laboratory-cultured cells from two small, stable antibodies derived from lamas that are South American mammals. This is seen as progress towards acquiring a new medical system against Kovid-19.

The study, published in the journal Nature Structural and Molecular Biology, mentions that the nanobodies can prevent infection with the coronavirus SARS-COV-2 by inhibiting the interaction with the protein ACE-2. In the present study, they tested the ability of antibodies derived from South American mammal lamas to neutralize SARS-COV-2.

Researchers reported that human antibodies, like most mammals, also have two chains - heavy and light, but organisms like llama also have an extra single heavy chain antibody, known as a nanobody. The scientists stated that nanobodies are small, stable, and easily manufactured and thus serve as an alternative to traditional antibodies for diagnosis.
