The US said on Saturday that it was excited to indict Lashkar-e-Taiba operations commander Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi in the terrorist financing case in Pakistan, but to hold Islamabad responsible for his involvement in terror attacks such as the 2008 Mumbai massacre needed.
Lakhvi, the mastermind of the Mumbai attacks, was sentenced by a Pakistani court on Friday to 5 years imprisonment in a terrorist funding case. This action was taken on Islamabad amidst increasing international pressure for action in the case of the terrorists going around in the country.
In response to the court's decision, the South and Central Asia Bureau of the US State Department said in a tweet, "We are excited by the recent conviction of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi.
However, his crimes far exceed terrorist funding. Pakistan should consider holding him accountable for his involvement in all terror attacks, including the Mumbai attacks.
