Pakistan: Election Commission suspends membership of 154 MPs for not giving details of assets


The Election Commission of Pakistan suspended the membership of 154 MPs and MLAs of the provincial assembly who did not provide details of the assets. Pakistan newspaper Dawn was quoted as saying that the membership of these MPs and MLAs will remain suspended until they submit the details of their assets and liability.

According to the newspaper, the Election Commission suspends the membership of MLAs-MPs who do not provide economic details every year. Last year too, more than 300 public representatives did not provide details. According to the law of Pakistan, it is mandatory for public representatives to provide financial details of their husband and wife and children by the end of December every year.
