At present, about one in nine people in the world have to starve. The situation has worsened this year due to the global epidemic coronavirus. This claim has been made in the UN report that came out on Monday. The report said that the economic recession and environmental related events caused by the corona have pushed more people to starvation.
Nutritious food out of reach of people
A nutritious diet is still out of reach for many people due to inflation. This is not only increasing malnutrition but also increases the problem of obesity in adults and children. This report has been prepared by five UN agencies. These include The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD), United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), World Food Program (WFP) and World Health Organization (WHO).
The number of starvation victims increasing
"After a decades-long decline, the number of people suffering from hunger has been increasing gradually since 2014," the report said. It also states that the mere availability of food is not enough, it is also important to have food. The United Nations found in this study that about 69 million people are victims of starvation. This number is 8.9 percent of the world's population.
89 million people to be hunted by 2030
Within a year, this number has increased by one crore in 2019. At the same time, if we talk about the last five years, this number has increased by six crores during this period. The study says that if the situation remains the same then by 2030 the goal of ending hunger will become impossible. The United Nations has estimated that by 2030, 89 million people worldwide may be starvation. It will be 9.8 percent of the world's population.
