Iran: 12 people killed in an avalanche in a mountainous area near Tehran


In a mountainous area near Iran's capital Tehran, several avalanches killed 12 people. Avalanche occurred in four different areas hereafter strong winds and snowfall a day earlier. According to the news of the state-run TV channel, there were avalanches in the Alborj mountain range, where a large number of people come for mountaineering.

The government TV channel showed emergency personnel using helicopters to search for the missing people. According to the news, 11 people were found dead and one person died on the way to the hospital. Iran's Red Crescent Society also released pictures of rescuers unloading body bags from helicopters. Earlier in 2017, there were also two avalanches in Iran that killed 11 people.
