Former Mexico defense minister arrested in US for drug smuggling


Mexico's top ambassador has said that the country's former defense minister, General Salvador Sean Fugos, has been arrested in Los Angeles. Fugos has been arrested on charges of drug trafficking and money laundering. Mexico's Foreign Minister Marcello Eberard tweeted that US diplomat Christopher Landau informed him of the arrest of Sean Fugos.

General Sean Fugos was also charged with money laundering

The General served as Minister of Defense during the reign of President Enrique Peta Nieto between 2012 and 2018. Eberhard said he was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport when he was either coming to the country or going out of the country. Two other people aware of the case said Sean Fugos was detained under a warrant issued by the US Drug Administration Administration. One said that the warrant was issued for money laundering and drug smuggling.
