Violent protests have begun in Guatemala to protest the approval of next year's budget. Angry protesters ransacked the Parliament House on Saturday and set a section on fire. In the budget, education and health items have been cut, which people are opposing.

In Guatemala City, around seven thousand protesters took to the streets on Saturday and demanded the withdrawal of the budget. The protesters allege that the MPs passed the budget through mutual negotiations, while the country is reeling from the recent cyclone storms and the Corona epidemic. Angry protesters set fire to a part of Parliament House and vandalized it.

Security forces fired tear gas shells to control the crowd, injuring several people. Significantly, in the budget, MPs approved funds to pay for their meals, but have cut funding for Corona patients and human rights agencies. People are angry because of this.
