The event was held at Arlington National Memorial in honor of the bravery of American Sikh soldier Gurpreet Singh, who was martyred in a combat mission in Afghanistan a decade ago.
A memorial was erected here in memory of Singh only about six months ago. Singh is the first and only Sikh on the Afghanistan campaign to be inducted into a national memorial.
After the ceremony on Thursday, his sister Manpreet Singh said, "This program was to honor my brother's late Corporal Gurpreet Singh. He was martyred in the war in Afghanistan ten years ago. We weren't even able to properly perform his last rites and wanted to place him at Arlington National Monument.
