West Bengal: Woman beaten to death on suspicion of being a thief, 4 arrested

A 41-year-old woman was beaten to death by some people in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district on suspicion of being a thief.


Police said on Saturday that the woman's husband was also injured in the incident. Four people were arrested on Friday in connection with the incident at Chinpukur village in the Kashipur police station area.


According to the complaint lodged by the deceased woman's husband Ali Hussain Moula, a total of 14 people attacked one of them with sticks in the house accusing them of stealing.


On Ali's protest, her neighbor Sufi Bibi, who is accused of assault, attacked her until she fainted.

Police said that the local people took both of them to the Primary Health Center, from where the woman was sent to a hospital in Kolkata, where she was declared dead.

Police said that the investigation of the case was initiated after the complaint was filed and the main accused along with three others were arrested. Efforts are being made to arrest the others named in the FIR.
