Kochi: To help cancer patients, a female officer of Kerala Police has shaved. The pictures and video of this 44-year-old female police officer are now becoming viral on social media.
Senior civil police officer Aparna Lovekumar said that she did not shave her hair for any change but to change the lives of children fighting cancer.
Aparna got her shaved off two months ago in a beauty parlor in Thrissur and donated her long hair to the Cancer Research Center in Trichur where wigs (fake hair) for poor cancer patients are prepared and given free of cost.
She said that buying wigs made of natural hair is not just a matter for poor cancer patients whose hair ends due to radiation or chemotherapy. Many patients are allergic to artificial wigs.
Aparna said, "So I decided to donate my hair after seeing a cancer-stricken child in school who was trying to recover from her hair loss due to chemo treatment."
She took permission from her superiors before cutting her hair 70 cm long. In the beauty parlor in which Aparna shaved her head, someone made a video of it from a mobile phone which spread on social media.
The police officer, already widowed, said, "I am not rich. It was the only way for me to bring a smile on the face of poor cancer patients."
She said that this video has inspired many girls to do something for this noble cause.
Aparna, an official of the women police station at Irisalakkuda, Thrissur, said, "I get calls from college-going teenagers. They have been inspired by this. My message to them is not to copy me. Any other for the poor and needy in society Do the possible work. "
