The Supreme Court has said that it will investigate whether educational institutions and universities come under the purview of consumer law. The court said, so far there have been different views on this issue.
A bench of Justices DY Chandrachud, Indu Malhotra, and Justice Indira Banerjee accepted the pleas of Manu Solanki and other medical students of Vinayak Mission University, Salem.
In this petition, the students have questioned the services of the university.
The bench said since the top court has different views on the issue. Therefore, there should be a hearing on this matter. The bench, in its October 15 order, directed the university's lawyer Soumyajit to file the university's reply on the petition filed against the decision of the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission within six weeks.
