The committee constituted by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has recommended a fine of Rs 10.33 crore on a Gurugram builder for violating environmental laws. The builder is accused of constructing a housing complex in a green area.
The three-member committee visited the Ambience Lagoon Apartments and Gurugram Island sites in Gurugram and found the commercial complex to be illegally constructed on the land of the housing colony. This construction work is a violation of environmental clearance.
The committee recommended that the illegal commercial structures and other works in the green area of the lagoon apartments be immediately demolished. Also, the committee said that the projector should pay Rs 10.33 crore as environmental compensation. The committee also suggested that the government may immediately impose a penalty of 10 percent of the 138 crore project.
The committee consists of representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Central Pollution Control Board, and Indian Institute of Forest Management, Bhopal. Earlier, the NGT imposed an interim compensation of Rs 68.51 lakh on Ambience Developers and Infrastructure Pvt Ltd for Ambience Lagoon Apartment Building in Gurugram.
