Recommendation of the Ministry of Defense, Parliamentary Committee should avoid visiting Leh currently

The Defense Ministry has recommended the postponement of the Parliamentary Committee next month's Leh visit for the present. According to sources, the ministry told the parliamentary committee that it was not right to go there. The committee was scheduled to visit Leh in November to review working conditions at high posts and facilities provided to soldiers.


Members of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) are investigating a CAG report on roads along the China-India border. Also, a report related to clothes, equipment, ration, and housing conditions given to the soldiers posted there is also being investigated.


According to sources, before the committee headed by Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary, leader of the Congress party in the Lok Sabha, top officials of the government including CDS General Bipin Rawat have just recommended the postponement of the yatra. He said this visit will create additional stress on the army amidst weather as well as tension on the border.


The parliamentary committee asked about Chinese investment in Paytm

Amid continuing military tensions on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, a standing committee of parliament asked representatives of Paytm questions related to Chinese investment and data storage in the company. Senior officials of Paytm appeared before the Joint Committee of Parliament on the Personal Data Protection Bill on Thursday.

Sources said, Paytm officials made some important suggestions regarding the proposed law. The committee told Paytm officials that consumers' personal data should be stored in India.

Leaders of various parties included in the committee asked Paytm why the sensitive and private information of Indian consumers is stored on its overseas servers while claiming to be an Indian company.

The committee said the server must be in India. The committee sought information about Chinese investment in a company facilitating digital transactions. Paytm said, sensitive and personal data can be transferred outside India for the purpose of processing when such transfer is given explicit consent by the 'data principal'.

Explain that representatives of American companies like Facebook, Twitter, Amazon have recorded their statements before the Parliamentary Committee on data storage. While representatives of companies like Reliance Jio, Airtel, Ola, Uber are also to appear before the committee.
