Former Rajasthan minister and three-time MLA from Tonk constituency, Zakia Inam died on Monday (September 21) due to coronavirus infection. Zakia Inam had been unwell for the past few days and was undergoing treatment at RUHS Hospital in Jaipur.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressed grief over her demise and said, "My heartfelt condolences on the demise of Congress leader and former minister Zakia Inam Ji. May God give her family members the strength to bear this bad time. may her soul rest in peace.''
Congress leader Zakia Inam handled portfolios like Health, Women and Child Welfare in the Rajasthan government.
In 1985, Zakia contested for the first time as a Congress candidate. However, she was not given a ticket in the year 1993. She contested as Congress candidate in 1985, 1990, 1998, 2003, 2008, and 2013. Zakia became MLA in 1998, 2008.
Notably, Zakia was the only woman candidate who became a three-time MLA in Rajasthan.
