Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a high-level meeting of the United Nations on desertification, land degradation, and drought today. PM Modi will address this meeting through video conferencing. Prime Minister Modi, chairman of the 14th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), will address this virtual high-level dialogue at 7.30 pm today.
The meeting was convened in support of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification by the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Volkan Bozkir, to assess the progress made in fighting land degradation and determine the way forward on global efforts to regenerate and restore healthy land.
According to the advisory issued by UNCCD, the meeting will be attended by world leaders, ministers and government representatives, agricultural industry leaders, representatives of UN institutions, international organizations, and civil society groups as well as members of the general public.
Besides Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the high-level program will be coordinated by Amina Mohamed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ibrahim Thiaw, Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, and Coordinator of the Union of Women and Autonomous Peoples of Peel, Chad (AFPAT). The Hindu will also address Oumarou Ibrahim as well as heads of state and government, ministers, and senior UN officials.
