A bail petition filed by Arnab Goswami, the editor-in-chief of Republic TV, and two others arrested for abetting the interior designer for suicide, will be pronounced on Monday. The bench of Justice SS Shinde and Justice MS Karnik of Bombay High Court reserved the verdict on Saturday after a day-long hearing.
Senior journalists Arnab and two other accused, Feroz Sheikh and Nitish Sharda, have filed an interim bail petition in the High Court, terming their arrest as illegal. Reserving its decision on this, the bench said that the accused can apply for bail in the Sessions Court if they wish.
But on Saturday, the late-night notice on the website of the High Court said that the bench will give its verdict in the matter after 3 pm on November 9. Arnab Goswami and the other two were arrested by the Alibag police of Raigad district on November 4 in a case related to the alleged suicide committed by interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother for non-payment of dues. Currently, he is in judicial custody till 18 November.
Arnab sent from Alibag to Taloja jail
After the decision on Arnab Goswami's bail plea did not come on Saturday, he was sent from Alibag to Taloja Jail on Sunday. The investigating officer in the case Jamil Sheikh said that Arnab Alibag was active on social media at the Quarantine Center. He was also using someone else's phone.
He said that we have already sealed his phone. I have written a letter to the Alibaug Jail Superintendent to make an investigation report of the case on how Arnab got the mobile phone available at the Quarantine Center. Based on the report, he has been sent to Taloja Jail. Meanwhile, Arnab Goswami accused the police of assaulting him and said that his life was in danger. Therefore, the Supreme Court intervenes in the case.
