Kerala: Senior Congress leader and former minister KK Ramachandran dies at 84

Senior Kerala Congress leader and former minister KK Ramachandran died of a heart attack early in the morning. He was 84 years old. The Congress leader, popularly known as Ramachandran Master, was a three-time MLA from Kalpatta and three times Sultan Bathery.


A resident of Kannur, Ramachandran became active in politics after quitting his job as a teacher in 1980. He was also the secretary of the Kozhikode District Congress Committee. Ramachandran was the Food and Civil Supplies Minister in the AK Antony government in 1995 and the Health Minister in the Oommen Chandy government in 2004. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala have mourned his death.
