Karnataka has the highest number of 42 products with a Geographical Indication (GI) tag in the country. State Industries Minister Jagdish Shettar said on Friday that the Yeddyurappa government was making all efforts to popularize and market these products. For this, there are plans to make special pavilions for them at airports.
On the question of Congress MLA Abbaya Prasad in the assembly, Shettar said that a total of 370 GI products are registered across the country. There are 42 from Karnataka and in addition, four GI logos are also registered with Karnataka. Prominent among them are Mysore Silk, Mysore Agarbatti, Kolhapuri Chappals, Udupi Chameli, Udupi Muttu Gulla Bangle, Udupi Sarees, etc. and agencies have also been formed for marketing these products.
