The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case of cheating against a retired MTNL employee for using a fake caste certificate to get a job and a house under the Scheduled Tribes category.

Officials said on Saturday that the certificate was issued 44 years ago. An FIR has been filed against Ramesh Chand Meena who retired from the post of a senior manager in 2018 after serving in a public sector undertaking for over three decades.

He said that the Scheduled Tribe (ST) certificate was issued in 1976 in Bharatpur, Rajasthan by an SDM level officer who was not posted in the area at that time.

Meena used a certificate for a job at Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) and acquired a flat in 1987 in the DG-1 area in the Vikas Puri area of West Delhi under ST quota.

According to the CBI, Meena hails from Hathras in western Uttar Pradesh, where her ancestors own land. Officials said that the agency found that there was no serial number on the certificate issued on 10 September 1976 by the Deputy Collector of Deog, Bharatpur.
