For the first time, 40 thousand bulletproof jackets made in the country have been supplied to the Indian Army. The first batch of these jackets will be given to the soldiers engaged in operations against the terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. Major General Anil Oberoi, on behalf of SMPP Pvt Ltd, the company making them, said that they will provide full orders to the army ahead of time. The government has given the company until 2021 to complete this order, but by the end of 2020, all the jackets will be ready.

According to Major Oberoi, the first year he had to provide 36 thousand jackets for the army, but the company is moving beyond this target. This bulletproof jacket made in the country can withstand bullets made of hard steel. That is, the AK-47 and many other weapons will neutralize it. Currently, these jackets have been sent to the Central Ordnance Depot, Kanpur. They will soon be sent to Jammu and Kashmir from here. Last year, the Ministry of Defense signed a deal of Rs 639 crore with SMPP to provide modern and light bulletproof jackets to the army. Under this, the army has to get 1.86 lakh high-level jackets.

The Ministry of Defense had said that the project would also give a boost to the government's Make in India scheme. It is considered to be a confidence-boosting step for the Indian Army and the industries. These jackets are made from boron carbide ceramic, which is the lightest and best material for protection. These jackets will provide 360-degree protection to the body of the soldiers so that they can be used in war and anti-terror operations as well. Being made of modular parts, they are flexible and easy to wear and convenient.
