Tandava: Aparna Purohit's anticipatory bail application rejected, may be arrested

Amazon Prime's India head Aparna Purohit from Allahabad High Court has received a big setback. Amazon Prime's India head Aparna Purohit's anticipatory bail application in broadcasting case has been rejected. After the anticipatory bail application is rejected, Aparna Purohit's problems may increase and the police can arrest him. Ten cases have been filed against Aparna and others related to the broadcast and production of the series. Rejecting the anticipatory bail application, the court remarked that the freedom of expression of the individual cannot violate the fundamental rights of religious freedom of the majority. The High Court has strongly resented the content of the Tandava web series. The court said that insulting Hindu deities in the name of expression cannot be tolerated. The court has said that the purpose of the framers of the constitution was to respect all religions. In fact, after the completion of the hearing on the anticipatory bail application filed by Aparna Purohit, the High Court had reserved the decision on 4 February. A single bench of Justice Siddharth has ruled the anticipatory bail application while delivering the verdict.

The court, in its judgment, has cited the decisions of the Supreme Court that it should respect the sentiments of others. The court cited the filmmakers of Western countries as saying that they do not make films on Jesus and Mohammed but Hindi films are made with Hindu deities. The court said that the petitioner of Jamia Millia Islamia, 15 years associated with the film industry and has done journalism course, has also included objectionable slogans of students of JNU Delhi in the web series, which describes Indians as intolerant.

Earlier, the court had stayed the arrest of Aparna Purohit till the judgment was reserved. It is worth mentioning that an FIR was filed against Gautam Buddha Nagar district, including Aparna Purohit, alleging that he was messing with the sentiments of Hindu deities and Hindus through telecast of Tandava web series. An FIR was lodged against Aparna Purohit and others under sections 153- A (1) (B), 295- A, 505 (1) (B), 505 (2). Let me tell you that Judge Dinesh Kumar Singh of the Single Bench of Allahabad High Court had instructed Aparna Purohit in the case to reach Hazratganj Kotwali and record the statement. After this, she reached Lucknow to record her statement.
