Bollywood legend actor and comedian Jagdeep passed away in Mumbai on Wednesday at 8:40 pm. He was 81 years old. He died at his home in Mumbai. His real name was Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Jafri. He was the father of Javed Jaffrey. Jagdeep was born on 29 March 1939. He acted in more than 400 films. He managed to garner a lot of buzz with the character of Surma Bhopali in the famous 1975 film Sholay. The film, named after this character, was made in 1988, in which Jagdeep also played the lead role and was also directed by him. Apart from this, his comedy was well-liked in films like Brahmachari, Nagin, and Andaz Apna Apna. Among the fans, Jagdeep was famous for this character of Surma Bhopali.
Jagdeep started his career in the film industry in 1951 with BR Chopra's film 'Afsana'. Jagdeep acted as a child artist in this film. Even then, he worked as a child artist in many films including the best films like Guru Dutt's R Par, Bimal Roy's Do Bigha Zameen.
His work in the film 'Hum Pachhi Ek Dal Ke' was highly appreciated by the people and India's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru also praised Jagdeep. Jagdeep's sons Javed Jaffrey and Naved Jaffrey are also associated with the entertainment industry.
