Nana Patekar was born on 1 January 1951 in Murud-Janjira, Maharashtra, India. Patekar went through a difficult childhood. His father died of a heart attack at the age of 28 and he married his wife Nilakanti at the age of 27.
Patekar made his debut with Gaman in 1978 and has done many roles since. He was highly liked for his performance in Meera Nair's Salaam Bombay (1988) and then in Bollywood he starred in Parinda (1989), for which he won the National Award for Best Supporting Actor.
