During this time he became associated with theatre. It was here that he started doing theater on campus. Because of their theater hobby, the family used to be angry with him. Despite this, he remained adamant on his insistence. After completing their BA in 1986, he took admission to the National School of Drama Delhi.

Tigmanshu's elder brother is a Navy officer and a brother is a judge in the High Court. Just his father was angry that why he is doing theatre. But Tigmanshu was determined to make films and fulfill his dream of becoming an actor. which he accomplished.

Many stories of Tigmanshu Dhulia's films are famous but his love life is also no less interesting. Tigmanshu was giving heart to Tulika Dhulia, who lives in his neighborhood. Their affair started in the ninth grade. Then Tulika used to study in class VIII. Tulika's family had fixed the marriage by hiding her and when she came to know about this, she came to Tigmanshu. Tigmanshu was not ready to get married by rebelling against the family members. But when his friends and paintbrush explained, they were ready after two days. In 1989, his friends got them both married at Arya Samaj Mandir in Delhi. They did love marriage at that time when no one was ready for this. Currently, Tigmanshu lives in Mumbai with Tulika.
