According to the Good Returns website, gold prices rose from Rs 48,700 per 10 grams to Rs 49,100, while silver rose from Rs 50,020 per kg to Rs 51,900.
The prices of gold jewelery are the second largest consumer of India metal due to excise duty, state taxes and levies.
In New Delhi, the price of 22 carat gold rose to Rs 47,900 per 10 grams and in Chennai to Rs 47,180. According to the Good Returns website, the rate in Mumbai was Rs 47,400. The price of 24 carat gold in Chennai was Rs 51,460.
Gold futures on MCX fell 0.75 per cent to Rs 48,878 per 10 grams. Silver July futures also fell to Rs 51,091 per kg.
Globally, the price of gold declined 0.9% to $ 18.61 per ounce, its highest hit since September 2019 at $ 19.02. Among other metals, silver declined 0.9% to $ 18.61 an ounce, up from $ 19.02 since September 2019.
